Tegrity Browser Security Settings –

Internet Explorer (playback)

To view or download a Tegrity recording, you may need to have make some changes to Internet Explorer (IE) security settings. Please check your IE settings using the following steps:

1. In Internet Explorer, select Internet Options from the Tools menu
2. Select the Security tab
3. Click Trusted Sites (green check mark) icon/zone
4. Click Sites button
5. Uncheck the checkbox associated with “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.”
6. Add the URL of your institution’s Tegrity environment
7. Click the Add button on the Trusted sites window
8. Click the Close button on the Trusted sites window
9. Click the “Custom level…” button on the Internet Option Window
10. Reset the level to “Medium” or search for the following settings and select the indicated toggle button.
    • Binary and script behaviors – Enable
    • Download signed ActiveX controls – Prompt
    • Download unsigned ActiveX controls – Prompt
    • Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins – Enable or Prompt
    • Automatic prompting for file downloads – Enable
    • Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting – Enable
    • File download – Enable
    • Allow website to open windows without address or status bars – Enable
11. Select the OK button on the Security Settings window.
12. Select the OK button on the Internet Options window.
13. Close all browser windows.
14. Open a new browser window and try to view or download a Tegrity Recording.

If you set any of the security settings to Prompt, please accept/enable the ActiveX controls when viewing or downloading.

 

Mozilla Firefox PC (playback)

The following Firefox (Mozilla) browser settings are needed for optimal playback experience.

In Mozilla, open Tools >Options

• Click on the General icon
  • Click on Manage Add-on button (The Add-ons window will appear.) 
    • Click on Plugins
      • Make sure the following plugins are installed and enabled (if not, please install them):
        • Microsoft Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin
        • Tegrity Plugin
      • Close the Add-ons window
• Click on the Content icon
  • Make sure that the following check boxes are selected:
    • Enable Javascript
  • If pop-up windows are blocked, make sure to add the URL of your institution’s Tegrity instance to the Exceptions list
• Click on the Applications icon
  • Enter asf in the search field
  • Make sure that asf files are associated with the Microsoft Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin
• Click the OK button

Also, make sure that you have the latest version of Microsoft Windows Media Player installed on your PC.

If you do not hae the Tegrity Plugin installed:

• Open Tools > Options
• Click on the Security icon
• If “Warn me when sites try to install add-ons” is checked, click the Exceptions button. The Allowed Sites – Add-ons Installation window will appear.
• Add the URL of your institution’s Tegrity instance to the allowed sites list.
• Click the Close button.
• Click the OK button.
• Try playing back a Tegrity recording again. The plugin should be installed automatically.

Safari or Firefox on a Mac (playback)

In order to view Tegrity recordings on a MAC, you must have the following installed:

• Sliverlight
• VLC plug-ins (not the VLC player) 

Sliverlight is a free plugin from Microsoft. VLC is an open source video streaming program that Tegrity previously used within the Tegrity Mac-based playback experience. Recordings created after the December 2009 update, use the Silverlight plug-in during playback on the Mac. Recordings created before the December 2009 update us the VLC plug-in during playback on the Mac. 

First, check to see whether your browser (Safari or Firefox) recognizes the Silverlight and VLC Multimedia Plug-in, Version 0.8.6.c

In Safari:

• Select Help > Installed Plug-Ins menu option
• Select Edit > Find > Find menu option
• Enter silverlight in the find field
• Click the magnifying glass icon next to the find field
• If a Silverlight entry is not found, then see below.
• Enter vlc in the find field
• Click the magnifying glass icon next to the find field
• If a VLC plug-in entry is found, make sure that it is for Version 0.8.6.c. If the correct version of VLC is not found, see below.

In Firefox:

• Select Tools > Add-ons
• Select Plugins button
• Scroll through the plugins list to locate Silverlight and VLC plug-in

If the Silverlight plug-in is not installed, you can download the Silverlight plug-in from the following location:  http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx

If the VLC plug-in, version 0.8.6.c,  is not listed within your browser’s plug-ins, you need to remove/trash all VLC plug-in files that are located on your hard disk and then re-install the VLC plug-in. You can download the VLC plug-in form the following location:

• Intel based Mac : http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/0.8.6c/macosx/vlc-plugin-0.8.6c-intel.dmg
• PowerPC based Mac: http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/0.8.6c/macosx/vlc-plugin-0.8.6c-powerpc.dmg

In addition, you may need to add your institution’s Tegrity site  to the list of your browser’s cookie exceptions (in Firefox, Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > exceptions on “accept cookies from sites”).

Also, you should add your institution’s Tegrity site to the list of exception sites from which you allow pop-ups.
